My Cloth-Eared Heart

Melanie Branton is looking for a boyfriend. And it's not going well.

In her first full-length spoken word show, My Cloth-Eared Heart, she charts a thirty-year epic quest for love that has included a brush with a psychopath, stalking various strangers on the internet, and a turbulent relationship with a verb. A show about love, failure, stubbornness and being single in a couple-centric world.

Since taking up spoken word in 2014 at the age of 46, Melanie Branton has represented Bristol at the Hammer and Tongue and Superheroes of Slam national slam finals, had two collections of poetry accepted for publication (by Oversteps Books and Burning Eye respectively), become a much sought-after headliner on the South-West’s spoken word circuit and been invited to perform at Womad and Bristol Harbourfest.

"Clever, sad, funny, reflective, passionate. At the cloth-eared heart of it is Melanie Branton's ability to conjure light from the darkness, comedy among the tragedy, and a magical absurdity out of the everyday."
Brian Bilston

“ A fantastic poet with a great mix of dry humour and real-life heart and emotion.”
Harry Baker

“Melanie Branton is an unexpected poetry slap. The kind that makes your face tingle and your eyebrows sky rocket. She is funny, clever, ironic, dry, gripping, needed and you won’t see her coming until she is standing in your face.”
